7 Motorhome Essentials You Must Have for Your Next Trip

The Ultimate Motorhome Packing List

A great motorhome trip starts with careful planning. Whilst it’s easy to remember most of the essentials, there are a few things that can be forgotten, especially if you’re new to travelling in your motorhome. Let us make your next holiday easier with our latest checklist, tips and tricks!

Wi-Fi

For some, a road trip might be an undertaking for getting away from the claws of society, social media, and trash TV, but that’s not the case for many travellers. Other than the ability to share your best travel pics online as they’re happening, the ability to stay in contact with people, access maps and track your whereabouts can also keep you safe. If you get lost or suffer an accident, access to the internet will be able to provide you with useful information to help you solve your problems.

You can enjoy Wi-Fi from your campervan or motorhome by installing a dongle. The type of dongle you should install will heavily depend on where you are taking your trip as they use mobile data to function, and different companies offer greater coverage in some areas.

Taking your internet with you while you’re on the road also means you can wind down at the end of the day with your favourite Netflix box set or get in the camping mood with your Spotify road trip playlist.

Wi-Fi dongles can be purchased from Amazon for less than £10, but remember, if the mobile router or dongle doesn’t come with a SIM card, you’ll still need a SIM with a mobile data plan. You can pick up a SIM-only deal from any mobile network.

Caffeine

A trip away shouldn’t deprive you of your daily routine, and for most people a morning dose of caffeine is essential. If you’re a fan of proper coffee, however, you might find yourself missing the quality of a great brew – if you haven’t invested in an AeroPress.

This dinky and re-usable coffee filter will ensure that you can keep consuming your favourite beans wherever you are. Its diminutive size is fantastic as it’s easy to find a home for, and can even be carried on hikes!

Heater

Heaters are a must if you’re considering travelling in cold seasons. Most motorhomes and campervans already have a built-in heater, but not all do, so it’s important to check what you have.

If you are looking to install a heater in your motorhome, then you will need to be diligent in ensuring that you use one with a safe voltage. Beware that if you’re not staying at a site with a mains hook up, you could end drawing a lot of power from your vehicle’s battery, so it might be better to call in an expert if you are uncertain about what you need to do.

If you’re pitching at a site with a 230v mains connection, you can always use a standard portable heater, the same way you would at home. There are plenty to choose from at Amazon or other online retailers.

Gas

Without the right kind of gas, you could be putting the brakes on your holiday earlier than expected. The kind of gas you need will depend on the appliances fitted to your motorhome or campervan, which will either run on propane or butane.

Hopefully, your rolling home will only need one of these gas types to save you hassle and storage space on your journey. If not, then don’t worry because we can supply you with our campingaz cylinders, which include a range of butane gas bottles and propane gas bottles.

Fridge, Freezer, Portable Cooler

In contrast to the heaters you’ll crave during cool days, a mini fridge-freezer can make your trip feel a little more luxurious on those hot summer days. If you don’t have a fridge installed, we recommend using a portable cooler for keeping milk and other perishables fresh. There are plenty to choose from and you can pick them up from most outdoors online stores, like Halfords or GoOutdoors.

Picnic Plans and Outdoor Entertainment

One of the joys of a road trip is the chance to enjoy the outdoors – which means that you will surely be looking forward to a bit of picnicking. Make the experience nice and easy for yourself by bringing rugs, foldable camping chairs and a picnic hamper.

Alongside your food, you might enjoy a few other outdoor entertainment pieces. Bats and balls can easily make for a fun afternoon without taking up much space in your van. Binoculars will help you to explore the wilderness and a camera will enable you to capture the memories. Just don’t forget the sun cream!

More Road Trip Essentials to Consider

If you’re travelling in the warmer seasons, insects can turn a fun holiday into a real pain. Fitting your campervan with fly screens is a must if you’re travelling in autumn, and there are also plenty of insect-repelling bands that your party can wear to discourage bites.

Pandemic or not, good hygiene is always important when you’re on the road and living in a small space. Double check your cleaning supplies to make sure you’ve got everything you need. And if you’re travelling during the pandemic, make sure you pay attention to the local guidelines and that you’re fully stocked with hand sanitisers.

We wish you the best holiday and hope that our checklist has helped you. Remember, if you’re in need of gas for your next trip, don’t forget to contact us.
